The David Lipper Interview

Recently, more and more actors have started to come to Romania to film, David being one of them.

I am sure most of you know him but what you guys probably do not know is that he stayed in Bucharest for a few months this year. He’s been in different types of movies and from what we heard, he had a blast in Romania. He is back in LA now but that did not stop him from answering a few questions for us.

Let’s start with the basic question – How did you take on acting?

I started when I was about 8 in a show called “The Gondoliers”.

By 9 I had a starring role in the play “Sampson the Son” and received great reviews. I knew as early as then this is where I was meant to be.

If you could choose a character you haven’t played (yet), but would love to, who would that be? Why?

I love playing lawyers. It’s the type of character who plays to win and falls in line well with my technique. I did actually play a lawyer as a guest star on a series called “Michael Hays”, but I didn’t get to litigate on the show. I’d really like a chance to do that.

What genre of movie you like to be part of? Action movies, comedies, dramas?

I am definitely a comedy guy, but I have a love of the whole craft and really like to spread out what I do across all genres. In the last year I have done a horror movie (“Lost after Dark”), a romantic comedy (“Love by Design”), an action/thriller (“Dying of the Light”), a dance movie (“High Strung”), and a period war drama (“Sons Of Liberty”). That’s pretty much every genre under the sun.

What’s your favourite movie?

My favourite role was playing the lead, David, in “Loves Deadly Triangle: The Texas Cadet Murders” (foreign title is “Swearing Allegiance”).

My favourite film that I haven’t been in…. geez! I have a bunch in my top 10 that are all great: The Godfather 1 and 2, Shawshank Redemption, Big Fish, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casablanca… it’s impossible to pick one.

You worked with great actors like Jane Seymour and Vin Diesel. Do you have any stories with them while you were filming that you are willing to share?

Jane was lovely. Interestingly enough she told me she has made more money on her jewellery line than in her acting career. The necklace with the two hearts by Swarovski – that’s hers. I actually bought one for my girlfriend.

You play Amos in the upcoming TV series ”Sons of Liberty”, what drawn you to this role?

I originally read for a smaller part. When they called to book me, they told me they wanted me for one of the “Sons of Liberty” leads. I had no idea who the character was… I just said yes. They needed me to start right away.

You wrote the screenplay for the movie ”Them” what can you tell us about the story?

It’s about the “Iele” who live in the mountains of Romania. It was supposed to have shot late spring but the financier couldn’t come up with the money in time. I am looking to get it shot this spring back in Romania.

How did you end up filming in Romania?

I came to teach a class for Ivana Chubbuck for students who started studying her technique in Bucharest. Then the movies started coming in while I was there and it was hard to leave.

What did you enjoy the most while filming in Romania?

The people and the night life. I met some really good friends there and had a blast going out in the old city, the various restaurants and the seaside.

This week ”Love By Design” will premiere in Romania, can you tell us a bit about your role in this movie?

I play Lance who is Danielle’s (Giulia Nahmany) first boyfriend in NY. I work with Jane Seymour at the fashion magazine and look to move up the ladder at my girlfriend’s expense. Not the most ethical guy, but a very fun character to play. Much like my role as Denise Richards’ husband in “I DO But I Don’t”.

Anything that you would like to add for the people that will go see you in “Love by Design”?

I think it’s a really fun movie that showcases Romania in a very positive light. It’s a family comedy that we can all relate to, much like “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”.

There you have it people! Go and check out his new movie, look into the other few ones he filmed this year and keep an eye on him for future “adventures”.
