Present at the Telluride film festival, Danny Boyle has confirmed a Trainspotting sequel, set for release next year. The date would also mark the 20th anniversary of the original film.
Trainspotting was Boyle’s first major hit, and was based on the novel by Irvine Welsh. It catapulted Ewan McGregor to stardom and also featured Robert Carlyle, Ewen Bremner and Jonny Lee Miller and often appears in charts of the best British films.
When asked, Boyle said: “All the four main actors want to come back and do it. Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series.” McGregor has previously confirmed he would like to return as his character, Renton.
