Help Bloodwise win its fight!

Under a quite simple but powerful message, Bloodwise, formerly known as Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, emphasises one of today’s biggest problems:

“There are 137 different types of blood cancer.

We’re here to beat every single one.

Join us at Bloodwise.”

I believe in the power that a group of people with the same goal can have. I believe we are fighters by nature. I believe we all want to survive. As such, I have decided to show you, from time to time, ways of fighting and helping others succeed in their fight.

download_largeThe UK’s largest ever blood cancer public awareness campaign is running this September, in response to low awareness of the group of diseases which include leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Despite collectively being the fifth most common type of cancer and claiming more lives in the UK each year than breast or prostate cancer, many people have little or no knowledge about blood cancers.

And how can we fight something we don’t know exists? Because of that, a nationwide campaign by the charity, to coincide with Blood Cancer Awareness Month, highlights the fact that blood cancer is comprised of 137 individual diseases – this message will be loud and clear on 3,000 billboards across the UK. Diana Jupp, Director of Patient Experience at Bloodwise, said: “This lack of awareness for one of the most common forms of cancer cannot be tackled overnight, and this campaign is the first step to addressing this problem.”

Let’s sum everything up in a few points:

1. What is the charity’s background and purpose?

Bloodwise is the new name of the UK blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, which was founded in 1960. The new name was chosen to reflect the charity’s work for patients with all blood cancers, and unites everything being done to beat them, from world leading research and thought leadership to patient support services and fundraising.

Their aim is simple: to change the world for people with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood disorders, and not stopping until every single person with blood cancer survives and can live their life to the full. The full “HOW?” part can be found on their website.

2.  How can you get involved?

First of all, what matters is to want to.

Second, they offer a few options:

  • Are you the active or sporty type? Take part in events and challenges!
  • Do you like interacting with other people? Do volunteer!
  • Any shopaholics in the house? Buy someone a gift and have the profits donated towards Bloodwise!
  • Workaholic? Discuss a possible partnership between your firm and the charity and tick 2 boxes at once!
  • You are more busy than you can actually be? You can still help, every donation takes them a step closer to their goal!

3. Who are their supporters?

As I’ve said previously, I think public figures can help enormously nowadays. People, and especially fans, tend to support the cause of their favourite musician or actor or athlete if it’s a good one.

Bloodwise has its supporters and ambassadors as well, and you might have heard of some of them: Sir Ian Botham (one of the legends of English cricket), Mark Lewis Jones (‘Robin Hood’, ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’), Sam Heughan (yes yes, lovely Jamie from Outlander), Iain McKee (‘Castle in the Sky’), Dani King (Olympic champion) and many many more.

And, for those of you who are a bit more visual and still need convincing, Bloodwise is offering information about themselves through this as well:

Every bit of support counts.

Every step, no matter how small, matters.

Keep that in mind for this and everything you do.
