Ready for EFG London Jazz Festival?

It’s that time of year again! EFG London Jazz Festival, London’s 10-day celebration of jazz is back with a hotly anticipated bang, delivering a mix of world-class artists and emerging stars taking the music to a massive and ever-growing audience.

With 2,000 artists across more than 300 gigs, the capital’s biggest pan-city music festival embraces the full breadth of the music and the city. There’s a gig and a venue out there to suit everyone as well as a stellar concert hall programme, participatory activities and plenty of events that are free or family orientated.

You might get a chance to listen to trumpeter Terence Blanchard’s E-Collective with an opening set from the meteoric young talent Jacob Collier, two performances featuring Ice-T (yes, the Ice-T) and Ron McCurdy in Ask Your Mama; 12 Moods for Jazz, Ibrahim Maalouf & Manu Katché, and more intimate shows featuring Miroslav Vitous, Eddie Gomez, and Phronesis.

Keith Jarrett will make his first appearance at the EFG London Jazz Festival in a solo acoustic piano performance and Cassandra Wilson will pay homage to jazz legend Billie Holiday on the centenary of her birth. The Southbank programme is rounded off on the last Saturday with Average White Band & Kokomo. Concert-hall highlights include Nik Bärtsch at Kings Place, Cécile McLorin Salvant at Cadogan Hall and many more alongside a huge club programme that’s peppered with stars and another 21 new commissions.

Have a look through this year’s EFG London Jazz Festival programme and don’t hesitate to go and have some fun. I took my own advice and got a few friends to come along as well!
